Provincial Nominee Programs

Of all the 10 provinces of Canada, 9 offer Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) along with two other territories except for Quebec, which offers a separate selection program. PNP allows the provinces to nominate individuals to Canada who wishes to immigrate to Canada and settle in particular provinces.

These provinces and territories then select immigrants who meet the requirements based on their specific criteria. Such programs vary from province to province, each one having its own set of rules and selection criteria. The main purpose of it is to bring skilled workers from outside of Canada to the places where there is a shortage of such workers. Each year, several thousand new permanent residents are added to the list depending on the provinces’ demands in varying fields of Business, Medical, IT, Agriculture, investment, Trades and the like.

How to apply?

The fastest way to apply for PNP is through the Canada Express Entry system. Then you can apply through a separate application for Provincial Nominee Program. Once you are selected for Permanent Residency status after remaining in Express Entry pool for a year or so, your PNP application will then be processed by the province you have applied for. You will also be granted 600 points which will be added to the Express Entry score. With the increased score, you will be selected and thus invited for Permanent Residence in next draw (which occurs every 2 weeks).
